Meet Mabel Design Co.

Founding Principal Interior Designer and Creative Director, Nancy Kuemper, is driven by her two passions and love of design and travel. She strives to leave her mark on the world by creating impactful interiors that are conceptually inspired and unique to each project, which tell stories and result in an extraordinary experience for those within it. Her talent and meticulous attention to detail results in continuously meeting project goals regarding excellence in design and execution.

Offering over a decade of experience, Nancy holds a Bachelor of Applied Interior Design degree from Mount Royal University and is qualified by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) as a professional Interior Designer.

The start of Nancy's career led her to work with some of Canada's most sought-after architectural and interiors firms where she was able to expand on the foundation of her knowledge and experience while working on projects throughout North America and Europe with a high level of innovation and design-forward concepts, constantly pushing the boundaries and thinking outside the box. A nomad at heart, her curiosity and desire to explore and experience the world offers her endless cultured inspiration, international perspectives both in life and in design, as well as motivation to challenge convention and the status quo.

Our Design Process

At Mabel Design Co., we lead our full-service interior design projects from conception through to completion as the primary point of contact for consultants, contractors, trades, and clients throughout the project duration. There are several moving parts and numerous decisions to make within each project, and following a methodical, phased approach guides our projects through all the necessary steps and tasks. Aligning with our process maintains the appropriate sequential flow and timely efficiencies of an interior design project. The following comprehensive process allows us to manage each task, resulting in the best possible outcome of a project and a smooth and enjoyable experience for our clients.

 
 
 

  • All projects begin with a complimentary 30-minute discovery call where we learn a bit about each other, the project, and have an opportunity to ask questions. Subsequently, we schedule an on-site consultation to tour the space and formulate a complete scope-of-work. This information allows us to prepare a detailed interior design fee proposal post-consultation in studio, which is tailored specifically to your needs and goals.

    For our Virtual Interior Design services, we will conduct a virtual consultation instead of an in-person visit to see the space.

  • Understanding the project objectives and requirements, the needs of the end user, and the intention of the interior is crucial to beginning an interior design project. Engaging through conversation and questionnaires, we conduct a thorough briefing to establish a clear project vision. Reviewing the project site and/or architectural drawings allows us to gain an in-depth understanding of the existing conditions, so that we can analyze and identify the spatial capacity.

  • The creation of a thoughtful narrative is developed through conceptualization and preliminary space planning, informing the overall design direction. A visual look and feel focuses on our design philosophy and key design ideas which will act as our guide throughout design development.

  • As we move towards materializing the design direction, our focus shifts to refining the design through strategic planning, elevating, modelling, and the selection of finishes, fixtures, equipment, and furniture. It’s through this phase that the design concept transforms into a tangible reality.

  • Upon design approval, we prepare construction drawings and specifications, detailing all elements and components of the project for seamless execution of construction. Working closely with contractors and other key partners, we coordinate regarding project costs and obtaining necessary permits, to prepare the project for proceeding into construction.

  • We actively review shop drawings and construction progress to ensure all work is executed according to the design intent and construction documents. Advocating for our clients, we safeguard your investment by protecting the design vision and addressing any unforeseen challenges which may arise throughout the construction and installation period.

  • As we bring your project to a close, we conduct a final assessment of deficiencies, and prepare the interiors for a professional photo shoot and client handover.
